Recap: TBMED at ESB 2022

On September 4-8, 2022, ESB 2022, the 32nd Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB), took place in Bordeaux, France. The event, having taken place in person for the first time after a 3-year Covid-19-induced break, was co-organized by Didier Letourneur who is leading the INSERM team in our TBMED consortium. The conference motto was “Innovative Biomaterials and Translational Research” and we are happy to say that TBMED took part with quite a number of contributions.

On September 7, TBMED coordinator Iraida Loinaz participated in the “European Projects Symposia”. She was one of six speakers in a room well filled with over 50 participants. Her talk was on “Open innovation test beds, a tool for the effective validation of new technologies on medical devices” focusing on the TBMED project and its way to establish an OITB. While the innovative Quality-by-Design approach is at the heart of the TBMED OITB go.Med, reference in this talk was also made to the validation of the OITB’s services with 8 use cases (4 of them within TBMED and 4 brought into the project through several open calls).

In addition to TBMED’s presence in the workshop, the TBMED consortium took part in the poster sessions:

Poster session on “Cell & tissue material interactions” Poster by Thomas Ritter (NUIG) on “Human Corneal Keratocytes Display Enhanced Viability and Infiltration Capacity when Grown on Collagen Type-I-modified PHEMA Hydrogels

Poster session on “Scaffolds”
Poster by Teresa Simon-Yarza (INSERM) on “Quality-By-Design Driven Development and Up-scaling of a Medical Device for the Guided Regeneration of Bone Defects

Last but not least, we are proud to share with you the news that Prof. Abhay Pandit of TBMED partner NUIG received the George Winter Awards for his contribution in the field.

The abstracts of the talk as well as of the two poster contributions are available in the program section on the ESB conference website.
