TBMED collaboration with EU project HOTZYMES

Dr Raluca Fratila from TBMED partner UNIZAR gave a talk about the use of magnetic heating for therapy and the TBMED project in the Workshop “Designing MNPs for nanoactuation based on magnetic heating”, organized on March 15, 2021 by the European project HOTZYMES (https://www.hotzymes.eu).

HOTZYMES (“The Development of efficient Enzymatic Cascades in well-coordinated One-Pot-Systems”) is a project coordinated by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and funded in the frame of the H2020-FETOPEN-2018-2020 call. HOTZYMES sets out to develop a new ground-breaking concept to exert functional control over different enzymes using magnetic heating. This will be enabled by enzyme immobilisation on magnetic particles, which are exposed to an alternating magnetic field.

The concept of magnetic heating is the same as the one employed in TBMED by UNIZAR for the treatment of pancreatic cancer, although the final application is very different, demonstrating the versatility of systems based on magnetic nanoparticle-induced heating.

Both UNIZAR as well as HOTZYMES found the collaboration and exchange of experience very useful and look forward to further collaboration opportunities in the future.
